Smith & Loveless was founded in 1946 by B. Alden Smith
& Compere Loveless as a sales engineering firm
representing several manufacturers in the wastewater
industry. Early in their association, Smith &
Loveless recognized the need for complete factory-built
wastewater system, and so began manufacturing this
equipment. Sales increased rapidly and within a short
time, Smith & Loveless had sales representatives
throughout the United States and Canada.
In
1959, Smith & Loveless was acquired by Trans Union
Corporation. This acquisition complemented markets
served by other divisions of that firm as well as
providing additional capital for expansion and research
and development, thus ensuring Smith & Loveless’
leadership in the water industry. Following a merger
with the Marmon Group, the management of the Smith &
Loveless Division purchased the assets in October 1981.
Smith & Loveless Inc. was reborn with a renewed
commitment to maintain leadership in the water industry
through the design and production of quality equipment
and by providing superior service.
Bolstering
its water treatment line and allowing for expansion
into the
European marketplace,
Smith & Loveless
Limited, an affiliated company of Smith & Loveless
Inc., acquired the majority interest in Kalsep Limited
of England in March 1995. Further international expansion
occurred in March 1998 when Smith & Loveless Inc.
formed an alliance with Smith & Loveless New Zealand
Ltd., granting licenses to market and sell equipment
in New Zealand and Australia. And in a strategic move
in August 1999, Smith & Loveless Limited - UK began
to actively market and sell Smith & Loveless Inc.
wastewater technology in the UK. In April 2003, Hydranautics
B.V., the European subsidiary of Hydranautics, purchased
Smith & Loveless Limited.
Growth
has continued domestically as well. In 1996, affiliate
Bio-Microbics Inc. was
formed to specially
develop, manufacture and market wastewater treatment
systems for the on-site residential marketplace. And
a new millennium was commenced in 2000 with the formation
of Smith & Loveless Georgia Inc., providing superior
pump station sales and service for Georgia customers.
With tens of thousands of installations in more than
70 nations around the world, Smith & Loveless continues
to bring innovative pre-engineered solutions to the
global water wastewater and pumping marketplace.
